Happy New Year! …wait

Do you know what the end of February makes me want to do? Write New Years Resolutions. Bet you didn’t see that one coming.

First, let’s assess last year’s attempt:

I really wanted to only have one W-2 for taxes, complete a rough draft of a young adult fiction novel, draw something in pencil, paint something in acrylics, paint something in oils, paint something in watercolors, draw something with pastels, etch a piece of glass, sculpt something, create a mixed media piece of art, and visit and photograph five new places.

If I had time after doing all that (…seriously?), I wanted to try selling something on Etsy, try making little clay necklace charms, lose some weight, got to at least one concert, have a personal website, have business cards, go to AX10, go to the BYU writing conference, and go to Canada (…seriously?).

I thought for sure I would pay off my car, go to Disneyland, take a drawing class, celebrate my golden birthday, get new glasses, and go to the dentist.

So how did I do?

  • I had only one W2, which was great, but for the first time ever, only got a net total of $5 from the government. It’s nice I paid the right amount of taxes, but I kinda wanted a chunk of spending money.
  • No rough draft of any story. I got four chapters of one though.
  • I drew lots of things in pencil and painted one thing with acrylics. I didn’t create any art in oils, watercolors, pastels, etched glass, or mixed media. I got halfway done with a sculpted pot and quit (lame).
  • I visited and photographed Las Vegas. 1/5.
  • I went to a concert (Muse). Disregard everything else in that paragraph because it didn’t happen.
  • I paid off my car. Yay.
  • I didn’t go to Disneyland. Long story, not telling it.
  • I took a drawing class wherein I realized I am awesome at pencil drawing. :D
  • I celebrated my 27th birthday on April 27th in Las Vegas with my sisters.
  • I got new glasses.
  • I still have yet to see a dentist.

I tend to do something different with my resolutions every year. I’m going with vague this year.

  • Blog more (I wrote 50 blog posts in 2010).
  • Try different artistic mediums (I have tried lead pencil, acrylics, oil pastels, ceramics, and glass etching).
  • Make art that isn’t Achaean.
  • Read more (Just going to have to guess on this, not sure how many books I read this year).
  • Travel more (I went to Vegas in 2010).
  • Weigh less (I know how much I weigh…we’ll leave it at that).
  • Write more fiction (I’ve got 4 chapters of one idea so far).

I think that’s plenty for one year, especially since we’re already two months in.

  1. You could finish a collaborative effort you started with someone. a pretty fascinating story if you ask me… then…. it stopped.

    • Hrm, maybe. It’s this procrastination complex I have that tends to get in the way. ;)
